Pinhole Glasses

Our Pinhole Glasses consist of contemporary sunglass frames with black plastic lenses punched through with several rows of tiny holes (pinholes) in a prescribed configuration. The placement of the holes is such to turn blurry images into focused ones for nearly any person with blurry vision, whether nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic.

Other pinhole glasses on the market have flat, substandard frames. Only our glasses have wraparound frames, and prevent light from coming in from the sides.

The technology is not new. The devices were first conceived by a scientist named Scheiner in 1573, and the U. S. Patent Office awarded Patent No. 1,959,915 for "lensless spectacles" to a Charles C. Guthie of Pittsburgh, PA on May 22, 1934. Since 1934 the devices have been known as "pinhole glasses."

We carry Insta-Focus Glasses, and we feel they are better than standard pinhole glasses.

The primary difference between the two is that Insta-Focus Glasses are a natural form of vision correction and eyeglasses correct blurry vision artificially. I-F Glasses can never harm one's eyesight while prescription lenses can cause one's eyesight to weaken over time. Wearing eyeglasses or contacts with illuminated screens such as computer monitors causes headaches and sore eyes, while a person can use I-F Glasses for hours on end without experiencing eye strain. The only advantage that prescription glasses have over I-F Glasses is that they can be used at all times, while I-F Glasses can't be used in dark places and are not recommended for use while driving due to the reduced peripheral vision they cause.

If you have a basic understanding of how a camera works, you might have a better idea of why pinholes created in cardboard, plastic, or any other similar medium can improve vision for people with farsightedness, nearsightedness, presbyopia, or astigmatism.

Camera enthusiasts know that when you narrow the opening (aperture) of the camera, images then are focused through the lens at a much greater range of distance (depth of field). If you widen the aperture and allow in more light, you then achieve focus with the camera lens in only a very limited range of distance.

Similar principles apply when light rays enter the eye through a pinhole. When the eye deals with only a narrow band of light rays, ability to achieve sharper focus is enhanced. This is because the pinhole blocks many light rays that otherwise would contribute to formation of a blurry image.
