Music can soothe the savage beast—including your dog! Millions of dog guardians have grappled with behavior problems caused by their dog’s anxiety—from fits of barking when their spaniel is left home alone to the nervous whimpering of their collie during a thunderstorm. Now, psychoacoustic expert Joshua Leeds joins concert pianist Lisa Spector to bring you Through a Dog’s Ear, the first CD in a new series of music clinically demonstrated to calm canine listeners.

Research conducted with 150 dogs showed that the psychoacoustically designed classical piano arrangements on this CD reduced anxiety behavior and induced calmness in 70% of dogs in shelters or kennels and 85% of dogs in households. What’s the secret? Thanks to their breakthrough research, conducted with veterinary neurologist Susan Wagner, Leeds and Spector have developed a unique understanding of how the canine nervous system responds to sound. Using that insight, they have created music shown to be twice as effective as conventional classical selections for soothing dogs. Through a Dog’s Ear brings you timeless music that you can enjoy with your furry companion—and, most importantly, will help your “best friend” live a happier and healthier life.

Joshua Leeds... of the San Francisco Bay area is a renowned authority on psychoacoustics–the study of the effects of music and sound on the human nervous system. A music producer and sound researcher, he is author of The Power of Sound and Sonic Alchemy, and, most recently, Through a Dog's Ear, the book that tells the story behind the music and explores the effect of the human soundscape on dogs. Leeds' recordings are used in clinics, classrooms, and now, dog shelters, around the world.

Lisa Spector... of Half Moon Bay, California, is a graduate of The Julliard School. She has won first prizes in prestigious national piano competitions, and performs concert tours internationally. A lifetime dog-lover involved in agility training and competition, she has served as a volunteer puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Includes 1 hour CD and 26 page booklet.

On February 22, 2008 on The Early Show on CBS, "Through a Dog's Ear" was featured in a 4 minute segment.
